In South Africa, the most beloved Easter treat is spiced, sweet “Hot Cross Buns”. The cross on top represents the crucifixion of Jesus and the spices inside represent the spices used to embalm Jesus.
These hot cross buns inspired cookies are filled with warm, traditional spices, dried cranberries, chopped dried apricots and butterscotch chips and topped with white chocolate for that signature cross. More than just a cookie - it’s a reflection of geloof (Afrikaans for “faith”) and tradisie (Afrikaans for “tradition”).
